Hijacker of car belonging to retired garda given suspended sentence A 20-year-old who hijacked the car of a retired garda, who stopped to help him in Laois, has been given a suspended sentence at Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. Jamie Gordon of Mac William Parade, Tallaght and his accomplice then got the car stuck in a bog and stole another one from a nearby garage. During the incident, the other man told Gordon to shoot the retired Garda on learning that he was a former member of the force Gordon pleaded guilty to hijacking a BMW and been carried in a stolen Audi A6 in Portlaoise on December 27, 2009. His co-accused denies the charges and will stand trial. After hearing the evidence, Judge Pat McCartan said: 'At the outset he was very much determined the accused would go to prison. However he said Gordon seemed to be 'the lesser of two blaggards' and was “making every effort to turn a corner and turn his life around” Justice McCartan sentenced him to three years, suspended in full for five years with two years probation.
