Midlands Disabilities Day Service Wins Travel School Of The Year In The Region

they focused on sustainable ways to travel day-to-day.

A day service for adults with disabilities has been named the Midlands Region’s Travel School of the Year.

Tús Nua RehabCare in Tullmore won the accolade for their work during the Big Travel Week in March, with a focus on using sustainable methods to get to their centre.

They emphasised the use of public transport and walking/ wheeling. They also completed a walkability audit and submitted their findings to Offaly County Council.

An Taisce Education Unit Director Cathy Baxter said: "It's so uplifting to see such enthusiasm and creativity in making the journey to school sustainable! Initiatives like these, as part of Green-Schools Travel programme, are so important in creating real sustainable behaviour change"

 

Schools awarded on the day were:
Cappawhite NS, Tipperary - Southern Region and National winners
Loreto Primary Dalkey - Eastern Region winners
Tooreen NS, Ballyhaunis - Northwestern Region winner
Tús Nua RehabCare, Tullamore - Midlands Region winner
St. Joseph’s Templemore - Staffroom Challenge winner
